A Family Friendly Event | Bike Ride

Picture this:

Waking up to the sun rising over a motionless lake, biking alongside your family and friends through the serene Palmetto Trail, and enjoying a freshly grilled burger after a long day under the sun. Sounds like something from a dream, right? This dream can come true if you register for The Post and Courier’s first ever Bicycle Across South Carolina (BASC)! Don’t worry, we’re not going across the entire state of South Carolina (at least not this first year). And best part of all, BASC is family friendly event!

The Family Friendly Two-Day Ride

It may sound challenging, but BASC is suitable for the whole family! The two-day ride is designed for all ages and experience levels, making this something your family will not want to miss. The first day of the two-day ride begins at Santee State Park and travels 62 miles through The Palmetto Trail. The entire day is along flat land with a mixture of dirt and gravel roads, making it incredibly safe and fun for all ages. Just be sure your child can handle the mileage each day and is able to ride a bike with 20″ wheels or larger.

Following the ride through the beautiful trails of Lake Moultrie, riders retreat to a number of lakeside accommodations where you can swim or relax at Overton Park. If you still have a little pep in your step, join us on the dance floor for disco night. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed.

Day 2 of the two-day ride departs from Overton Park and pursues a custom trail through the Francis Marion Forest. Enjoy scenic overlooks through swampy terrain, logging roads and long-leaf pines. The ride ends in Awendaw with a Lowcountry Boil, music and drinks in the lush setting of the Hidden Ponds Nursery.

And if you’re not up for the ride, we have a non-rider option that lets you enjoys the camping, food and drink, and outdoor activities but without the bikes!
