A Non-Rider’s Experience at BASC

So you tagged along while your spouse rides across the state, now what? Non-rider participants are still a huge part of BASC. Even though they aren’t hopping on a bicycle, the non-riders will get to experience the state of South Carolina from a whole new perspective.

Thursday

Opening night takes us to Poinsett State Park in Wedgefield, S.C. Everyone will be shuttled up from Awendaw and brought directly to the campsite where you can set up camp. Shuttles will be available to and from the hotels so even though you’re not camping, you can still enjoy the nightly festivities. For a list of available hotels, click here.

Thursday night’s theme is Grillin’ and Chillin’. Throughout the night, riders and non-riders will enjoy live music from Pierce Edens, enjoy a burger by the campfire, and get a chance to meet your fellow riders and non-riders.

Kayaks, canoes and pedalboats are also on-site and included in your registration fee. Grab a friend and take a spin around the lake at the sun sets over the serene campground.

Friday

Friday morning begins with Packet Pickup and breakfast! Coffee, breakfast and grab-and-go snacks will be served between 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM. As riders begin to depart between 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM, non-riders are welcome to take a morning canoe ride, take a light walk and/or breakdown your campsite (depending on how your rider co-part left it).

Once everyone is all packed up, the shuttle will bring us over to Santee State Park. Upon arrival, non-riders will board a pontoon boat and be brought directly to the campsite. For those staying in hotels, a separate shuttle will be available to bring you to your accommodations.

After setting up camp, non-riders are encouraged to explore Lake Marion by paddleboard, canoe or kayak! Or just explore the beautiful landscapes surrounding the campsite on foot while the riders arrive.

Dinner will be served between 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Friday night’s theme is good ole’ fashioned Southern barbeque! So grab a plate, grab a cup and enjoy the mellow, southern stylings of The Carolina Keller Band.

Saturday

Saturday morning kicks off with Packet Pickup for the 2-day riders. Breakfast and coffee will be served between 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM. Riders will depart between 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM.

After the riders depart, non-riders can explore the campgrounds and Lake Marion. Once everything is packed up, non-riders will be shuttled to the next destination; Lake Moultrie! Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards will be available at the campsite.

Non-riders and riders can swim or relax at Overton Park, reserved exclusively for BASC, and then enjoy a wide variety of dining options at our happy hour and Food Truck Rally served between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

If you still have some spunk in your trunk, show us your best dance moves as we celebrate Disco Night, complete with lights and 70’s fashion. Big prizes for the best dressed! We will also have a silent auction benefiting The Palmetto Conservation Foundation.

Sunday

Sunday morning is business as usual. Breakfast between 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM, riders depart between 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM.

Non-riders will be shuttled to our last and final stop, Hidden Ponds Nursery! Since Sunday is a shorter riding day, we’re expecting riders to start arriving between 1:00 PM-3:00 pm.

Starting at 2:00 PM, we will be celebrating the first ever Bicycle Across South Carolina with a low country boil! Enjoy craft beers and home-made desserts!

The Pluff Mud Band is taking the stage with their foot stompin’, classic blue grass style music. Guests are welcome to join on the final night.

As the event continues to evolve and come to life over the next few months, we want to hear what you’d like to see at BASC. Post-ride yoga? Football on a big screen? Email me here and we’ll see what we can do!

Early Bird Pricing is available until August 1st ($270 for the 2-day ride and $370 for the 3-day ride).
