Meet Walther Vliegen!

Walther is from Ponte Vedra, FL and will be joining us for his 3rd year at BASC!

What initially drew you to participate in Bicycle Across South Carolina?

A friend recommended it to me and I heard great things about it.

What are some of your favorite aspects of the event? 

The atmosphere, entertainment, camaraderie, program and the gravel routes in 2022.

How would you describe the atmosphere and community among the riders during the event?

Awesome! Exciting and convivial! As great as RAGBRAI

What are some things you like about our Basecamp set-up?

Easy set up. Convenient access to food, beer, showers and bathrooms – all great!

Can you share a memorable moment or experience from one of the bike routes?

I liked the farm roads and gravel routes in 2022, and the velodrome experience in 2023.

How has participating in Bicycle Across South Carolina impacted you personally?

Superbly memorable! Also prompted me to also sign up for RAGBRAI.

Would you recommend Bicycle Across South Carolina to others considering participating in similar events?

Yes, a small event with great atmosphere and people!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or any advice you have for first-time participants?  

Good spirits. Great routes. Just enjoy it, it is an easy process to register and then ride!
