Volunteer with BASC

Do you consider yourself a S’ more’s connoisseur? Snack enthusiast? Amateur baggage handler? Maybe just looking for a good excuse to ride for free? Then we need your help!

Bicycle Across South Carolina is looking for a team of dedicated volunteers to help support our team in executing this event.

Volunteer Perks

Anyone who volunteers will receive:

  • (1) Volunteer T-Shirt
  • (1) Meal per Shift (some production shifts may be excluded)
  • (3) Volunteer shifts = (1) Free Day to ride in BASC

Volunteer Roles

  • Check-In/ Registration
    • Greet registered participants
    • Answer event-related questions
    • Give packet to the participant (includes bib, wristbands, etc…)
  • Equipment Load-In/ Unload 
    • Take bags from participants & tag them
    • Load and unload trucks with bikes for storage or transporting
    • Keep bike and bag valet area neat and organized

  • Food and Beverage Support
    • Clear tables
    • Assist with food service
    • Restock plates, cups, and tableware
    • Restock ice
    • Restock beverages
    • Monitor entry lines and patios for appropriate wristbands
  • Rest Stop Management
    • Unload supplies from box truck
    • Set Up tents, tables, and chairs
    • Set Up bike racks
    • Set out food and drinks
    • Keep rest stop clean
    • Tear down rest stop tents, tables, chairs, etc. and load into box track

  •  Venue Set-Up/ Breakdown 
    • Loading in event equipment (i.e. food, sound gear, registration product, merchandise, tents, etc…)
    • Hanging banners
    • Setting up Pop-Up tents
    • Setting sandbags
    • Set up lights
  • Hospitality Team/ Green Team
    • Setting up tables & chairs in hospitality areas 
    • Decorating
    • Putting on table clothes
    • Setting up food stations
    • Help locate and retrieve hospitality supplies from Load Lot (cups, tableware, plates, napkins, etc.)
    • Set up beverage stations

Important Notes

  • Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from their shift(s)
  • If you decide to participate in the ride, please email Alison at awarburton@postandcourier.com to secure your spot. If you do not email Alison, you’re not guaranteed a spot
  • Any volunteers riding in the event are responsible for their own transportation to start/endpoints of the ride. This includes getting back to your car at the end of the ride.
