By Ryan Biddix
Happy 4th of July, Riders!
Get ready for an adventurous 4th of July in beautiful, historic South Carolina by making this Independence Day a mix of your two favorite things: biking and patriotism. We have put together some activities sure to make your day of Independence a little more special this year!
1. Pick a Scenic Bike Route
Get your morning off to a great start by choosing a scenic route that best fits your preference. From seashell-lined shores to swampy forests, winding country roads, and foothills, South Carolina has a variety of sights to see on two wheels.
2. Coastal Charm
If you’re coastal, take advantage of that and bike across one of South Carolina’s iconic beaches or coastal trails. You’ll be pedaling past the sand dunes and marshlands with an ocean breeze rushing by, making a sweep of any view of the vast Atlantic Ocean.
3. Historic Towns
Head inland to explore historic towns peppered throughout South Carolina. Bike along streets filled with colonial architecture, local businesses and mouth-watering restaurants. Along the way, stop and visit museums and landmarks that will help piece together a better picture of the rich history in the Carolinas.
4. Pack a Picnic
Pack those seasonal summer snacks, place them in your bike basket and head to whatever your favorite lookout spot is for this lunch that’s full of leisure. Whether it’s your nearest park or just a riverbank, take some time to relax and soak in the scenery of this spectacular state.
5. Slow Down at Sunset
Wind down at the end of your day by watching the sunset on a ride through some of South Carolina’s upscale, rolling countryside. Take in the quiet and serenity of pastoral scenes such as farmland, foothills, and fields with horses and cows.
5. End with a Bang
Put a sparkling close to the day with a display of fireworks! From every corner of this vast state, cities and towns host fireworks displays to celebrate the 4th of July. Bike and find a vantage point that is deservedly yours for the moment: by the side of a lake or atop a hill, watch the night sky light up in colors of patriotic fervor.
Celebrate the 4th of July in South Carolina—the place where history runs as wild as its natural beauty. Whether you prefer biking across a coastline, speeding down a winding country road, or just strolling through the streets of a small downtown, South Carolina has an abundance of activities for you and your family to do this Independence Day.
