Meet Gene Sereda!
Gene is from Mt. Pleasant, SC and will be participating in his 5th BASC Ride!
What was your favorite ride? Why?
The first one – I didn’t know what to expect and it was the most hardcore race so far with mostly offroad trail, people getting lost, etc 🙂
What initially drew you to participate in Bicycle Across South Carolina?
I enjoy seeing the beauty of different parts of SC from my bike.
What are some of your favorite aspects of the event?
Riding in the nature and having fun at the basecamp!
How would you describe the atmosphere and community among the riders during the event?
I would say it has a laid back and friendly vibe.
How has participating in Bicycle Across South Carolina impacted you personally, whether in terms of fitness, friendships, or
memorable experiences?
I was able to volunteer for several years and enjoyed meeting the team behind the event – they work really hard to make it a pleasant experience for everyone!
Would you recommend Bicycle Across South Carolina to others considering participating in similar events?
I’m not a hardcore biker, so I wasn’t looking for a race – with BASC, you go at your own pace and enjoy the experience, rest stops, basecamp events and meeting other riders.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or any advice you have for first-time participants?
I wouldn’t use clip-in pedals – they become a liability when you hit that sand patch 🙂
