Rider Profile: Rob Simons

Meet Rob Simons!

*The Bartender*

Rob is from Charleston, SC, and serves as our dedicated BASC rider, volunteer, and bartender.

Here is what he has to say as a 3-time BASC rider:

 What was your favorite ride?

Torn between McCormick County and Rock Hill

What are some of your favorite aspects of the event?

The community makes it for me… I spend most of my time riding solo, so this is my 1 time a year to come together with others all riding in the same direction…

How would you describe the atmosphere and community among the riders during the event?

fun, grateful, thankful…

What are some things you like about our Basecamp set-up?

I’m a hotel person, so the time i spend in basecamp is around food and drinks. And I do like the live music.

Can you share a memorable moment or experience from one of the bike routes?

3 things… first in rock hill hitting my metric century; and second in McCormick not bonking; and in “Edgefield 1” ice cream/chocolate milk

How has participating in Bicycle Across South Carolina impacted you personally, whether in terms of fitness, friendships, or memorable experiences?

It motivates me… and keeps me motivated to stay fit…

Would you recommend Bicycle Across South Carolina to others considering participating in similar events? If so, why?

I recommend it all the time… if only for the fact that the more people the more fun.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or any advice you have for first-time participants?

  1. Spend time at the rest stop refueling… don’t rush it. 2. Don’t be afraid to walk!!! 3. try to find someone doing your pace so you have a “bike buddy”
